So, for a variety of reasons, I’m gonna be off the sauce for January.

Those reasons are:

1) Being home for a long Irish Christmas when the recent return to the culture of emigration means that everyone is only in town for a short time tested even my vaunted ability to consume alcohol.

2) I have too much stuff to do on the weekend these days to lose a morning to hangovers.

3) New York seriously upped my game, booze wise. People in New York really don’t feel that they’re actually spending time with other human beings unless there’s a beverage keeping them company. This may be the same as it is in Ireland, but being Irish I never felt the need to booze constantly the way I did in New York.

4) I’m looking to get healthy this January. Experimenting with reducing what is probably the main toxin that I ingest seems like a good first step.

5) I’m saving m’pennies.
